“6 year old experiencing difficulties with emotional regulation, hyperactivity, impulsive behaviours. School concerns raised around risk to others due to impulsive behaviour and difficulty managing emotions – multiple sanctions and discussions of suspensions due to risk towards others (accidental due to impulses). Supported ADHD referral and provided appropriate psychoeducation and coping skills intervention commenced.
Engaging with intervention – mixture of home visits, outdoor appointments, in school appointments and discussions with young person, family and teachers to agree appropriate support and helpful strategies – time out pass implemented, emotional regulation ratings (Inside Out character themed), communication skills, grounding techniques and coping skills (in line with interests) delivered and implemented.
Improvements with behaviours both at school and at home, improvements with routine and emotional regulation strategies and building relationships with teachers and peers and received first GOLD STAR for behaviour – he was able to sit sensibly and engaged with task.
Mum also offered support from adult social prescribing service and open to engaging with support around own difficulties and through work with son, is also querying neurodivergence.
